Adakveo is a selectin blocker indicated for the reduction in frequency of painful vaso-occlusive crises (VOCs) in adults and adolescents aged 16 years and older with sickle cell disease (SCD).
Recommended Dosage:
- 5 mg/kg administered via intravenous infusion over 30 minutes
- Initial schedule: Week 0 and Week 2
- Maintenance: Every 4 weeks thereafter
- Adakveo can be used with or without hydroxyurea
If a dose is missed:
- Administer within 14 days to maintain the existing schedule
- After 14 days, reset the schedule to every 4 weeks
Infusion-related reactions may occur. Monitor patients during infusion and discontinue for serious reactions.
May interfere with automated platelet counts due to clumping in EDTA-containing tubes.
Avoid during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary – may cause fetal harm.
Use caution while driving or operating machinery—may cause fatigue or dizziness.
