Adakveo is a selectin blocker indicated for the reduction in frequency of painful vaso-occlusive crises (VOCs) in adults and adolescents aged 16 years and older with sickle cell disease (SCD).

Recommended Dosage:

  • 5 mg/kg administered via intravenous infusion over 30 minutes

  • Initial schedule: Week 0 and Week 2

  • Maintenance: Every 4 weeks thereafter

  • Adakveo can be used with or without hydroxyurea

If a dose is missed:

  • Administer within 14 days to maintain the existing schedule

  • After 14 days, reset the schedule to every 4 weeks
  • Infusion-related reactions may occur. Monitor patients during infusion and discontinue for serious reactions.

  • May interfere with automated platelet counts due to clumping in EDTA-containing tubes.

  • Avoid during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary – may cause fetal harm.

  • Use caution while driving or operating machinery—may cause fatigue or dizziness.
