Nplate (Romiplostim) is a thrombopoietin receptor agonist used for the treatment of chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) in adult and pediatric patients who have had an insufficient response to corticosteroids, immunoglobulins, or splenectomy.

Indication:
 Nplate stimulates platelet production and is used to reduce the risk of bleeding by increasing platelet counts in patients with ITP.

  • Risk of Bone Marrow Changes: Prolonged use may result in increased reticulin or collagen in the bone marrow. Periodic bone marrow assessments may be necessary.

  • Thrombotic/Thromboembolic Complications: Excessive increases in platelet count may increase the risk of blood clots. Monitor platelet levels regularly.

  • Rebound Thrombocytopenia: Discontinuation of Nplate can lead to a rapid drop in platelet count. Patients should be closely monitored after stopping treatment.

  • Progression of Malignancies: Nplate is not indicated for use in patients with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) due to potential risk of disease progression.

  • Hypersensitivity Reactions: Cases of anaphylaxis and hypersensitivity have been reported. Patients should be monitored and emergency treatment made available during administration.

  • Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Romiplostim may cause harm to the fetus. Effective contraception should be used during treatment. Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment.
